Contract Electrical Technician

Position:  Contract Electrical Test Engineer
Location:  Phoenix, AZ
Experience:  5+ years
Education:  BS in Engineering strongly preferred

Design test equipment, write test procedures and execute tests for equipment that are part of a comprehensive drivetrain system for the Electric Vehicle (EV) market.  Must have experience in designing automated test equipment and working with high voltage electronics and electric motors.  Background testing with a dynometer is a huge plus.

 

Specific Job Description:

Must be willing to accept a wide variety of work assignments supporting the total end-to-end process of designing, developing and assembling test equipment for Electric Vehicle drivetrain systems.  Need ability to work well in an interdisciplinary environment.  May be required to provide technical support to EV manufacturers via phone.  This contract position is expected to require 20-30 hours per week initially, with potential to become a full-time position as market demand grows.  Primary duty of this position is to certify EV drivetrain systems prior to shipment to customers.  VAXO Systems is a global distributor of Remy Electric Motors, and packages these motors with other components such as invertors, control systems, control systems, etc., to create manufacturer-specific drivetrain systems globally.


Required skills:

The Contract Electrical Engineer will be responsible for engineering design, analysis, test & evaluation, and certification.  The candidate is expected to:

·         Have the ability to take clear quantifiable direction and responsibility to meet objectives

·         Clearly articulate issues and provide guidance to the team on mitigation of all issues throughout the testing process

·         Handle multi-tasking and multiple program challenges, customer issues, and team dynamics

·         Direct and be responsible for the successful outcome of certification of manufacturer-specific drivetrain systems in VAXO Systems’ facilities in Phoenix, Arizona

·         Be clear, confident, concise, and coherent in oral and written communication skills

·         Be required to support studies, presentations, proposals and related activities

·         Travel to customer locations and field tests may be required on occasion, but rare

·         Possess general programming skills and be familiar with electronic controls design

·         Have the ability to develop drivetrain system and subsystem performance requirements based on input from customers

 

Desired skills:

·         Ability to use test equipment such as a dynometer to support certification testing, data processing and analysis

·         Familiarity with electric vehicles, Remy electric motors, and electric drivetrain systems

·         Familiarity with typical business tools and practices:  Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, work packages, presentation charts, presentations to customer, manpower estimating, proposal creation, quality non-conformances, corrective action plans, general status reporting, and contractual audits

·         Proven leadership skills are a plus.
